Vitamin E is helpful to red blood cells and tissues of the lungs, eyes, and arteries which are sensitive to oxidation. Vitamin E helps maintain proper functioning of the cardiovascular, nervous, and reproductive
systems.

Therapeutic Indications
Vitamin E is consistently in the news: it is credited with many attributes, and continues to impress researchers with its wide-ranging benefits.
Male fertility: An intriguing finding by Israeli researchers may give hope to couples who have difficulty conceiving: recent research found that the wives of men who took 200 mg of vitamin E for one month were able to
conceive by in vitro fertilization. Although the numbers were relatively small - two couples out of fifteen - the researcher felt that vitamin E may help to protect sperm against cell damage.
Protective health for elderly: A large scale study published by the National Institute on Aging suggests that vitamin E may be helpful in protecting against heart disease and improving overall longevity. After reviewing
results from over 11,000 elderly people, researchers found that those using vitamin E supplements significantly lowered total mortality rates, reduced the risk of heart disease mortality and decreased cancer mortality.
These findings are consistent with previous indications that vitamin E is beneficial to the elderly. Studies done at Tufts University have shown that immune function in the elderly has been increased when supplemented by
vitamin E.
Angina:. In a Japanese study of 104 angina (chest pain) sufferers, those who had the lowest levels of vitamin E suffered more chest pain. When calcium channel blockers (heart medication) could not provide relief, 300 mg
of vitamin E supplements were given, and the symptoms improved.
Although the cause for relief is not clear, it may be related to the effect of vitamin E on fatty plaques surrounding the heart. When these cholesterol-formed plaques oxidize, they may be more likely to respond to
signals to contract, which in turn causes chest pain. Since vitamin E prevents the oxidation of these plaques, there may be fewer contractions and less pain.
According to the Mayo Clinic;
- Supplemental vitamin E appears to have a protective effect against cardiovascular disease.
- Supplemental vitamin E has been associated with a reduced risk of some cancers.
- Supplemental vitamin E may slow the progression of Alzheimers disease.
- A diet high in vitamin E appears to have a protective effect against Parkinsons disease.
- Taking Vitamin E pills may enhance immune function in elderly people.
