Therapeutic Indications
Mullein is a showy biennial native to Europe, but is also found in North America. Its yellow flowers and large leaves have been a favorite of herbalists for years. Traditionally used to treat inflamed areas, it is considered an excellent aid for
respiratory tract infections. Mullein oil is still often used to nurse ear infections.
Research found a variety of different constituents responsible for mullein's positive effects; mucilage, saponins, and tannins. These constituents, working in harmony, make this plant oil:
 |
anti-inflammatory: able to reduce the pain and severity of inflammations |
 |
antiseptic: able to protect against any type of infection
diuretic |
 |
expectorant and demulcent: soothing to the respiratory system's mucous membranes |
 |
helpful in healing wounds, cuts and scratches |
Mullein oil is so safe, it can be used to soothe a child's painful earache, rashes, psoriasis or other dermal irritations.
Storage
Mullein Herbal Oil should be stored in a cool, dry area until it is used. Once opened, refrigeration and tightly closing the cap will prolong its shelf life.
Usage
For internal use, take 8-12 drops, 3 times daily to experience all the benefits of Mullein Herbal Oil.
For external use, warm this Oil to body temperature by rubbing between your hands or dipping in warm water. Apply liberally to affected areas, and massage in. Be sure to
treat the region adjacent to the wound, as healing is occurring here too. If using a bandage, increase the amount of oil applied. This guarantees the treatment area is still exposed to the oil, not absorbed by the bandage.
Complimentary Therapies
Proper nutrition is vital to good health. Drink plenty of water (at least 8 glasses daily) and juice instead of coffee, tea or sodas. Try to avoid synthetic ingredients, highly concentrated in prepared or packaged foods, and take a well-balanced
multivitamin and mineral supplement.
Compression, elevation, and ice or heat can be used to alleviate discomfort. A qualified health practitioner should be consulted to confirm which is the best course of treatment for you.
