Indications
Native to Europe, this white flowering herb is an effective astringent and tonic. As its name indicates, eyebright is traditionally used to remedy ocular (eye) conditions such as conjunctivitis, inflammations of the eyelid, and to prevent mucous secretion
from the eyes. Eyebright is also utilized for coughs, allergies, headaches, sore throats, jaundice, and earaches.
Contraindications
Do not place fluid extract directly into eyes.
Therapeutic Indications
Naturally growing in temperate regions, eyebright has found its way into herbal medicine due to its healing properties. People recognized the importance of this herb in treating conditions of the eyes and
mucousal membranes. Acting as an astringent, eyebright helps to control over-production of catarrh in the eyes, nose, and throat.
Internal use of this herbaceous plant shows it is a tonic to ocular tissue. Eyebright quickly assists to remedy conjunctivitis, eye lid inflammation, and other eye irritations. Traditional use also includes alleviating
earaches, environmental allergies, coughs, hoarseness, sore throats, head-aches with congestion, digestive problems, sinusitis, and cancer.
Although little scientific research has been done on eyebright, investigations have revealed that preparations of this white-flowering herb provide rapid relief of red and inflamed visual irritations. Eyebright has also
been successful at preventing further corneal damage to recent eye injury sufferers.
Storage
Eyebright should be stored tightly sealed in a cool, dry area until it is required.
Usage
Take 4-8 drops in juice or water 3 times daily one half hour before meals.
