Renowned for its beneficial effect on colds and flu. Elder flowers have diuretic, laxative, sweat promoting (diaphoretic), and anti-inflammatory properties that help relieve the discomforts of upper respiratory infections. Additionally, this herb helps to
remove mucous production due to colds, flu, and allergies.

Therapeutic Indications
The elder tree is one of the most versatile plants in the herbal industry. Various parts of this tree can be used to remedy different conditions and ailments. The bark, berries, and leaves can be taken internally
as a diuretic, and external application of the leaves helps to heal wounds. The flowers, collected in the spring, are more commonly consumed during colds, flu, and times of congestion.
When our bodies are producing excessive amounts of mucous (eg. hayfever, sinusitis, colds, etc.), elder flowers help to reduce uncomfortable upper respiratory tract inflammation. This ability also permits preparations
from the flowers to soothe sore throats and coughs. Elder flowers are especially successful against mucousal deafness.
The flowers' diaphoretic (sweat-promoting) properties stimulate the body's immune system to combat invading microbes. In addition, elder flowers are used traditionally for skin disturbances caused by metabolic imbalances
such as eczema, dermatitis, and other dermal diseases.
Storage
Elder should be stored tightly sealed in a cool, dry area until it is required.
Usage
Internally
Take 6-10 drops 3 times daily one half hour before meals. To induce sweat take 10 - 20 drops with hot water or tea and soak body in hot (not scalding) water.
Externally
Apply undiluted (if well tolerated), or apply diluted with equal parts water.
Complimentary Therapies
A proper diet is essential to overall good health. Replace the intake of junk, processed and fast foods with vegetables and fruits. Compliment your daily diet with a well-balanced multivitamin and mineral. Drink plenty of water and juice (at least 8
glasses a day), instead of coffee, tea or sodas to replenish the body's fluids.
Allow sufficient rest for the body's immune system to combat infections. Vitamin C and zinc also help decrease the duration and the severity of common cold and flu symptoms.
