Therapeutic Indications
This is a tree shaped like a pyramid. It is a coniferous tree reaching up to 20 meters with leaves that appear to have scales on them. This tree produces broad winged seeds. The tree must be at least 15 years of age before it is ready to be used for oil production. It is native to eastern North America and cultivated in France. The oil is produced mainly in Canada and the USA.

Traditionally, this was used by early civilizations for ritual purposes. A tea made of the leaves has been used for coughs, fever, and intestinal parasites. Natives of North America use cedar leaves steaming to fight the common cold in their traditional medicine and this use has carried over to modern medicine in products such as Vick`s Vaporub and other cold remedies. The ointment has been used for rheumatism, gout, warts, and psoriasis. The British Herbal Pharmacopoeia states that the twigs are used specifically for bronchitis and cardiac weakness, and warts. Dermatologist use cedarleaf in many countries for warts removal.

Commercially, it is used in pharmaceutical products such as disinfectants and sprays and as a counter irritant in analgesic ointments and liniments. Pharmaceuticals applications of cedarleaf are numerous. The fragrance is an ingredient in some toiletries and perfumes. Cedarleaf's fragrance and aroma is unique. You will often find it in men's cologne such as Ralph Lauren Safari, Roots, and Hugo by Hugo Boss.

Storage
Cedarleaf oil should be stored in a cool, dry area until it is used. Once opened, refrigeration and tightly closing the cap will prolong its shelf life.
